Recontextualization

RECONTEXTUALIZATION

details / 00:01:44

Recontextualization is a short motion piece that highlights the socially relevant issue of sexual abuse and rape statistics within the United States. This piece is meant to build awareness on the staggering statistics through the video. In order to create a permanent installation within a major city, I stenciled the statistics and then spray-painted them around the city of Detroit in high-traffic areas. Within the video, a woman walks past these statistics alone and untouched, and then ends up in a bar to emphasize that these statistics are more common when alcohol is involved rather than down dark alleys.
